William McIlhargey has over 25 years in
service to the health care community, developing and implementing strategies
focused on the value economics of new products. Bill’s background
encompasses both Fortune 500 companies and Start-ups (ventured & organic),
with product/service knowledge in medical commodities, joint fluid therapy,
capital equipment and medical devices. His competencies include; strategy
development, market segmentation, resource development and contract
innovation & negotiations. Noted for a hands-on customer orientation, Bill
is recognized for nurturing high level customer relations and as an
independent consultant represented and advised manufactures in North & South
America, as well as capital and service organizations in the US.
Bill’s most recent corporate experience was with Smith & Nephew as Executive
Vice President of their CMCA Team, an umbrella sales & marketing group
representing multiple companies in; orthopaedic devices, endoscopy imagery &
instrumentation, phlebology and wound science. Responsible to a US Council
of Presidents, a shared service platform was established to leverage the
clinical contacts of 600 representatives from these business units. Serving
on the management boards of the two largest companies, Bill worked in a
matrix environment to develop and implement “performance base strategies”
with sales and marketing functions. Later his influence was expanded to
e-commerce activity, third party reimbursement strategy and communications
out-reach programs.
Prior to S&N, Bill was Vice President of Health Care Services for The DePuy
Group, a franchise of Johnson & Johnson. In this capacity, he established
customer centric teams targeting “executive level relations” to remove
economic barriers and promote physician preference products. Bill also
directed margin strategy and process of US sales for the joint
reconstructive, trauma, spinal and bracing divisions. After the J&J
acquisition, he was selected to liaison consolidated business approaches
with other businesses in the J&J Family of Companies.
As Principal for a Management Consulting Firm, Bill has used his experience
to effectively position technology in the device and biotech space,
including OUS sales channel development, out-licensing contracting and
relational development.
After serving in the Unites States Army in Europe, Bill earned a Bachelor of
Business Administration from the University of Toledo and subsequently
attended Fisher College at Ohio State University, receiving an MBA in
Marketing. He resides in the North Shore of Boston.
