Managing & Controlling Physician Preference Items
June 21-23, 2005 at The Riviera Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, NV

The technology driving medical devices (implantable) has led to much debate on its affordability within the health care system and the provider’s ability to establish reproducible quality standards when delivering its intended benefits. With 2nd and 3rd generation complexity and the escalation of costs, the struggle continues in the attempt to control procedure spend. In this workshop we will focus on the issues surrounding medical device technology and the barriers existing between providers and suppliers. We will offer short-term resolutions that will nurture collaborative discussions with the supplier, dismantle current barriers and provide a platform for more effective contracting. We then shift to long-term approaches, providing insight with such models as clinical quality outcomes assessment, sustainable best practices, building physician relations and aligning incentives.

In this interactive workshop you will learn:
--What can be done in the short-term to address the costs of medical devices
--How to build a value proposition through collaboration with your supplier
--What constitutes a fair and equitable local contract for implants
--Steps to breach the economic barriers between buyers and sellers
--Is gain-sharing back on the radar screen
--How to build better relations with your surgeons
--What are the long-term building blocks for the affordable delivery of medical devices
